I posted wrong on it still being .010" off the lands. Its actually
.100"

I saw SAAMI max was 2.130, so I was worried about
seating it too far out. Then I noticed Hornady actually says to seat
at 2.20 with the 52gr A-max. With mine seat out that far, its really
close to the lands. I dropped and broke my caliper last night, so I
will pick up a new one today and find out how close it is for sure.

I'll do some more digging around on that, but everything I look at- well, it just don't stack up against the .243 58gr combo. I'm sure there are some that would be well suited to a Mauser length action, but I don't want to see an early bbl death, and I'm not crazy about seeing me ream necks either. Picking a new chambering is frustrating when you're already 100% sold on what you already have.

I will give the 50gr a try. I think I am having some stability issues
with the 55gr in the 1:14 twist. Its leaving some odd shaped holes in
the paper, and won't shoot a group to save its life.

55
V-max and Noslers are the lightest varmint bullets I had on hand. I
have some 52 gr A-max which would probably do fine though.	I may try
them and see if it helps stability. I just got back from the local
shop and they didn't have any 50gr in stock.

I also didn't
have any IMR 4198, so I loaded with H335. It going to be shot year
round, so I hated to use a ball powder, but that was the best I had at
the time.

The rifle seems to have a long throat in it. I
loaded at 2.45" and its still about .010" off the lands. I am still
somewhat new to reloading and am scared to load it any longer. I
marked mine with a paint pen to find where it hits the lands. I see
you said, "smoke your bullet", what did you mean by that? I don't
believe I have heard that term before.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I'll be trying out your suggestions as soon as I can. One thing to add is that I noticed that the holes in the stock do not line up well with the holes in the receiver. I'm beginning to wonder if there are issues with the stock being torqued out of whack. It has a pressure point near the front (two "dots") that apply pressure to the barrel for better accuracy. I'm thinking the odd stock torque may be an issue. Also, I've seen people recommend that you take some of the hollowed out areas of the stock and fill them in with epoxy to stiffen the stock up since its not entirely rigid. Anyway, thanks again guys.

I dug up my notes on rifle I sold about five years back. Every rifle is an individual, but mine tended to like IMR4198 and Nosler 50 gr Bal Tips. Superior accuracy attained anywhere between 18.6/19.1 gr with spectacular terminal acrobatics achieved at 19.7 gr. One afternoon shoot resulted in confirmed kills at 278, 280, 290, 306 and a probable at 310 yds. Seating depth is something you'll have to experiment with by seating too long. Smoke ur bullet to find out exactly when it touches the lands of ur bbl. Reduce by one or two thous is usually good place to start.

I am curious if anyone has a favorite load for .222 and if you care to
share it.

I have a 788 and a CZ527 American chambered in
this round, and have been shooting factory ammo so far but am ready to
start developing a load.

I am starting with the CZ first.
22" light barrel, 1:14 twist. My main goal for the gun is for coyotes,
bobcats, and groundhogs at 200yds.

I just picked up some new
WIN brass, and my dies are FL.

Any tips or tricks for .222?
What powders, bullets, seating depth, etc?
